Ed Pias Pianist Romayne Wheeler has lived in many countries, but for the past 15 years, he and his piano have made their home with the Tarahumara Indians of Mexico. In an interview with Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin, Wheeler talks about how the Tarahumara have inspired him and his music, including the compositions he performs, and his written down, of their own traditional melodies. Wheeler is in Las Cruces to perform in the St. Paul Sunday Afternoon concert series, and Dr. Doug Weeks, of St. Paul's, joins the conversation to talk about the popular series.

All the music selections in the interview are performed by Romayne Wheeler:
  1. Memories of the Alhambra, by Francisco Tarrega, arranged for piano by Romayne Wheeler;
  2. Traditional Tarahumara melody: Deer Dance;
  3. Huapango del Alamo (Huapango of the Cottonwood Tree), by Romayne Wheeler.
