Amjad Ali Khan Interview

Music can help transcend the borders of nationality, religion and language, says Amjad Ali Khan, one of the world’s most famous and accomplished sarod masters, in this telephone interview with KRWG-FM’s Leora Zeitlin. He has performed all over the world for more than fifty years, and says his "ambition in life is to connect the people of the world" through his music. Maestro Khan discusses the instrument, the way the music is made, and why we should not try to "understand" the music, but simply experience its rhythm, its sound and its emotion. Two musical selections are included in this interview, "Raga Durga" and "Raga Shuddh Sarang," both from "The Best of Amjad Ali Khan," on the Music Today label (cd #03073).

Interview recorded on July 18, 2008 and broadcast on July 24, 2008 on KRWG-FM 90.7, with simultaneous stream to www.krwgfm.org. Interview (without music) copyright (c) 2008, KRWG-FM 90.7 Las Cruces.
