William Leland Interview

Now that William Leland has to "commute" to Phoenix to rehearse with his new piano quartet, he’s thinking of buying a plane to get there. The Professor Emeritus of piano from NMSU has a pilot’s license from his early days in New Mexico when he flew to his concerts in Hobbs, Farmington, and even Denver. In this interview with Leora Zeitlin, he discusses the music of Joaquin Turina, Robert Schumann and Frederic Chopin, the meaning of a "scherzo" and much more. Musical selections:
1.) Joaquin Turina: Quartet in A minor, Op. 67, third movement, from a concert performance given January 13, 2008 by the Phoenix Piano Quartet;
2.) Robert Schumann: Quartet in E–flat Major, Op. 47, "Scherzo," from the same concert by the Phoenix Piano Quartet.
