Hey, Mozart! New Mexico

It’s one thing to write a good melody on your instrument in the privacy of your home. It’s another to hear a whole orchestra play it in public concert. Both Philip Miller and Quintin Dean described the thrill of hearing the orchestrated versions of their melodies in September 2007, at the annual Hey, Mozart! concert in Albuquerque. They talked with Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin, played their melodies in the studio, and listened again to their pieces on the "Hey, Mozart! New Mexico 2007" cd. The interview includes these musical selections:

1.) Philip Miller playing his own piece, "Halloween Night," on an electric keyboard;
2.) "Halloween Night" played by the Hey, Mozart! Orchestra, conducted by Alejandro Rutty, and arranged by Kim Patterson (Hey, Mozart! cd);
3.) Quintin Dean plays on the viola his piece, "Breeze Through the Willows";
4.) "Breeze Through the Willows" played by the Hey, Mozart! Orchestra, conducted by Alejandro Rutty, and arranged by Kathryn Rudolph (Hey, Mozart cd);
5.) Mozart: Andante from Symphony No. 4 (K 19); Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, James DePreist conducting (Delos 1605)
