Leora Zeitlin to discuss contemporary percussion music, and some of the composers that he will perform in a faculty concert on February 6.
Musical selections include:
- Keiko Abe: "Lullaby of Itsuki" (Japanese folk song), performed by Keiko Abe on marimba and Walter Van Hauwe, on recorder (Denon 3446);
- Steve Reich: Excerpt from "Six Marimbas," performed by Manhattan Marimba Quartet, Bob Becker and Russ Hartenberger (Nonesuch #79138);
- Sydney Hodkinson: Excerpt from "Omaggio" performed on private cd by Fred Bugbee and James Shearer on tuba;
- Excerpt from "Butsu Mutandari/Iyesa" featuring bata and mbira (Cuban and South African instruments, respectively), performed Michael Spiro and Michael Williams (Bata/Mbira Productions).
